great opening night! nibbles, booze, music, good vibes. it's such a foreign feeling to have people (strangers) observing your work... which is hanging on a wall... lit. surreal. a highlight was an old catalan man literally with his nose on the piece.

the piece documented 10 days of movement throughout the city. subtractive method on matboard+iodine+acrylic. basically one big experiment. detailed fotos to come!

I'm at work and this requires more thought than I can give right now, but my first inclination is to go with site #3. It's a series of bridges that connect downtown/financial district with South Boston, which kind of looks like Brooklyn.
Lots of BRICK and semi-brokedown. It has the children's museum and the Institute for Contemporary Art. There's also the Harpoon Brewery (which is awesome).
There's some cool shit, but it's hidden--starting point???

also, in general, Boston needs an artsy meeting place, kind of like the Bean in Chicago, but less tacky.
There's lots of design schools, and the Boston Center for Design, but there's no real touristy design spots that culture can revolve around.

another possible concept: using netting/screening to span the bridges and give hidden meaning to the views to South Boston?
I also read on the "shift" blog that much of the construction down their has been post-poned, and there is an ongoing "competition" for artists and designers to re-imagine these empty, halted spaces.
we could use these bridge span images to not only point to existing destinations in South Boston, but to trick the eye into imagining what COULD be in these empty holes left behind by the recession.
Not going to lie, I was totally inspired by Christo in this idea (his partner/wife Jean-Claude just passed away yesterday)
so many ideas! I'm getting excited! sexually.

stop motion

For my digital media class, we are making stop motion videos in Photoshop.

The story behind mine is Ted goes to bed and my stuffed lamb, Bowie, gets up and runs into the bathroom, turns on the faucet and has an adventure in the bathtub. An octopus knocks over his boat and my stuffed Hippo, Eli, picks up Bowie and brings him back into the bedroom. Ted wakes up and goes into the bathroom and finds water at his feet and the octopus floats by. He picks up the octopus and looks confused. Blackout.

This is the first three scenes of mine. I do not have a title or a song to go with it. Suggestions are welcome.

as most of you know my au pair experience was quite the bust. so much that after one week of work it could be qualified as my dirtiest job. some would say, i turned lemons into lemonade and decided to take advantage of being in europe (much to my wallet's dismay) and traveled. traveling mostly consisted of bumming off of a few european contacts (thanks casey!) while visiting and revisiting several european cities. i met a lot of crazies, both good and bad. i started a list of everywhere i went and the people i met. all good things must come to an end and as of november 4th i have been stateside. i popped into dc and nyc to visit a few people and postpone home for an additional week and a half. now i am back in good ole sc. it's not terrible, yet. however, i find myself faced with the inevitable what next and it is now time to retackle the portfolio. life suggestions welcome.

and you are going down

and you think about what he said

the last time he pulled himself out of you,

how your name slid off his tongue

and onto the peak of your throat

and beaded there, hot, still, throbbing.

You put your hand to your mouth

and you catch yourself behind a man

in a dark suit, his feet shoulder width apart.

You are both going down.

You imagine his body

pieced together, pinned

in the black dark of a box.

The man steps off and you

are alone and going down.

You remember the lentil soup,

dark wood, your mother’s coffee.

Sometimes you think you understand,

but his eyes were half shut

and it was a such short fight.

The doors open and two women step on.

They are talking about their children,

and you see a pit of bodies

light as breadcrumbs beneath a black soil.

The numbers flash above you,

you swallow, loud and thick,

and the three of you are going down.

They stop talking,

and you think about his socks

balled beneath the bed,

the screen door shutting after him,

the feeling of an entire day,

and suddenly you feel bloodless,

the weight of you like a wooden bucket going down.

When you are alone again

you sidle up beside yourself

but you can’t bring yourself to speak

anything but the names of things.

We made a dress, went for pasta.

Think Maria von Trapp, but more than curtains. A project with Anita Chen on reuse, and repurposing, this cocktail dress is made completely from materials found within feet of our homes. Materials, that in a greater sense, are the products and evidence of daily life. The Sites/Specifics: The Home (exterior): textiles from a discarded couch found at Anita's dumpster, a zipper from discarded couch found at Andrew's dumpster. The Home (interior): 3 years of saved drip-coffee filters, washed, and pressed. The Body (Anita Chen): patterns were created from an old t-shirt, stretched and pinned to the body in a single piece. The 2D patterns were revealed as the material was cut away from the body. more pics coming... Continue
