Face[book] map

We know we're connected. It's so very Collective of us. What's been fascinating me lately is that at any given moment, a screenshot of our Facebooks illustrates this. Our digital identity is literally comprised of each other, proving that we exist as a network rather than as insular selves.

Facebook screenshots taken 11.11.09-12:14am.
The strongest connections in this one are Temples' photographs and Casey's B-day. This is just a rough-run. More Facebook immediacy to come [as a series], as well as a cleaned-up system.

Your face[book] will be mapped! Stay organic, folks.

this is fun to decipher...i want the colors to be louder so i can tell more easily the difference between things (this would jeopardize your palate, though).

also: what if all the information NOT connected to anything falls to the background or disappears so we are left with only the writings, photos, and references? might make the collective story more easy to read?

My palate is up for jeopardization or outright brutality. I sort of hate these colors, myself. Color re-works are planned for the next iterations.

And, good idea! I'll see how it looks. Part of me, though, wants to leave all that other noise and let the line patterns speak for themselves after a lot of these are compiled serially. I'm leaving all of our positions the same each time, so any changes will be reflected in the line work. (I'm also thinking about changing line types as well as colors, just to make things a little more differentiated...)

Also, something about the idea of our physical location interests me too. Like how there are a lot of lines connecting you and Casey, even though he's the farthest away. That isn't obvious unless there's some reference to a physical map...

So there are some things to play with. I'll post iterations and see what you guys think is most legible/interesting...

Dylan took mine, actually. Damn, I seriously fade into the Collective background.

Also, I think you need to show some directionality with your lines...otherwise, the information is a little obfuscated.

yeah, i played with some arrows, but it was 2 in the morning and they looked bad so i just posted. one up-side of posting all the time is the blog keeps moving...the down-side is that sometimes the work is whack. :) thanks for all the pointers guys!

True, true. I'm looking forward to your next iteration!

"iteration" : probably the most overly-used word in architecture
