So, today I came across this large mayonnaise bucket with this cute little caution label attached...yes, dylan, a really large tub of white fatty mayonnaise. Does this warning label make anyone else feel like like jumping in a bucket? I feel like the label kinda fails since it's so cute. Now that I think about it, most caution labels I've witnessed are quite "cutesy."Also...I also found a picture with babies in buckets.BAH

pwr outage boredom
so a bunch of trees fell down in my neighborhood and knocked over a power line the other night. it was pitch black in my house and i could see nothing without a flashlight. i decided to to sketch all of the technologies in my life that i am semi-dependent on. keep in mind that a) i suck at drawing and b) i was doing this while holding a flashlight with my other hand. We know we're connected. It's so very Collective of us. What's been fascinating me lately is that at any given moment, a screenshot of our Facebooks illustrates this. Our digital identity is literally comprised of each other, proving that we exist as a network rather than as insular selves.

Symphony of Science
I'm sure that all of you area well aware of the autotune craze that has swept YouTube (I'm thinking specifically of Autotune the News: if you haven't seen it, you have a Google date in about five minutes). Via one of the most fantastic, aware individuals that I know, I bring you "Symphony of Science", featuring some of the most beloved scientists (of an astronomical ilk) of the past few decades: Neil deGrasse Tyson, Richard Feynman, Carl Sagan, and, duh, Bill Nye.
As Laura points out, today would have been Carl Sagan's seventy fifth birthday. Rarely has an American scientist been so socially aware (leading the push for nuclear disarmament) or able to popularize his field to such an extent. Last year, I heard an interview with his widow, Ann Druyan, about the "ark of culture" that they had put together (actually, they each left their respective spouses for each other while putting it together, goops) and were sending through space in a gold capsule; a physical record of the existence of man.
How romantic, how fucking incredible is that? Astronomy has never appealed to me, but this is something else: this is bigger.
Here, when he says, "the beauty of a living thing is not the atoms that go into it, but the way those atoms are put together," I cannot help but think of all of you. This is why biology, poetry, and architecture go hand-in-hand: their relationship to form. And that's why I can't help but get a little teary over how amazing all of these things are. Continue

ode to bug....a long take
this is a bit long but i had quite an entertaining time harassing this strange looking bug with my camera. after i set the camera down, you will see the slow stalking of my camera by the insect. You cannot see the end attack, but i find it all very amusing. Sorry for the music, but i had to do something while i was waiting. I never knew bugs could be vindictive.

vale. so every semester at metáfora, there is an exhibition that the school co-organizes with a gallery in the city. this term, the show is titled "reduce the unnecessary" and it will be held in grà cia in a small gallery called UntitledBCN. there are only 10 slots, so everyone submitted proposals to one of our profs...hungarian diva who normally tain't havin' it...to see who gets in. i got in! so the show, i think, opens 21 noviembre. i will definitely keep everyone updated with the piece, press release, etc... i am still working on the concept/prelim drama. i want to create a large-scale map of my past month in terms of seemingly insignificant experiences in different parts of the city. i guess i concocted the idea when kells and i randomly saw an old man riding nude on a bike in the middle of my quasi family-oriented neighbo(u)rhood. i want these instances (and there be many) to be very small and beautifully illustrated on a large-scale "map". time will tell how this map chooses to represent itself. meanwhile, i'm playing with my walking/train routes this past week. i'm using the red line the most...is that weird? anyone?
