For those of you who do not have InDesign...you can always do the 30 day trial from adobe.com. It's a really easy program to use. OR I exported the document into .pdf format, so if you want to create this in another program you can.

If Target can play Christmas music before Thanksgiving, then we can post videos about spring before Christmas
Here's a cute little stop-motion video that my host mom in Barcelona made for her jewelry website:

Alright, I need some advice... Kind of been rolling over it for a while, so HELP!!
I am currently at 72 pages in portfolio including cover, resume, contents page, and "about me." So, it is about 62 pages of just work... I know, no gawks, this is serious. I start each project with a title page and description, then go into it.
My projects are:
Vertical Farm (it has become very comprehensive and developed) - 12 pages - alone - building
Library - 10 pages - group project - building
New Orleans Health care - 8 pages - all alone - building
Tessatrek - 8 pages - Clay and myself - product
VaporNET - 10 pages - group charette - product
Four spreads on Digital Manufacturing Processes which includes PROXY since my role was to do material studies with the laser cutter - Singular/ group with PROXY - 10 pages - product
Abstract Art - 6 pages - all alone - art
Now, Caban wrote me a rec, so I feel inclined to keep the library and then take out New Orleans. It is also more developed obviously because it is a group project. However, that would mean that most of my projects were group or partner. I do not know if this is taboo to have so many group projects. Or, I could just throw it all in and say screw it. If anyone has ideas on group vs. singular work, then can you send it my way. I could use the advice. I would like to cut out one project to make the entire thing around 60 - 62 which includes again the non-project pages.
I am also looking at balance between architecture and product. Again suggestions...pleeeeeaaaasssseeee :(

super short day trip to abu dhabi to fulfill mom's visa drama - - dense highrise city center + insane traffic + green expanses/intercostal waterways reminiscent of fl + a modest & cautious dubai (thank allah)

this into that
Furniture design sort of baffles me. I understand why people do it; I have even attempted a little bit of it (clearly rudimentary) myself. I lust after meticulously devised couches and clever coat racks. I can have a sense of humor about bookshelves. Still, the whole thing here is a little too House of Paper for me to be comfortable. Too literal.
And then there's this thing that seems to bother people about defacing books. Since I worked in a bookstore and know that books are routinely stripped of their covers and thrown in dumpsters (sorry, public), this sort of reuse doesn't seem like an abuse to me (and certainly not a step down the slippery slope toward National Socialist Book Burning Slumber Parties). If it were a little bit more subtle, I would probably be an advocate.
What do you guys think? Should books only be a design element so long as they remain mutable, available in their "intended" form? Does making a book into something else remove its "intrinsic value"? If you thought of books as something structural rather than something more abstract, something floating in the intellectual ether, how would that change your relationship to the things that you read?

Science v. art: sort of.
Fruit flies, unlike humans, have ovaries that are comprised of small, stem-cell derived strings of cysts (called "ovarioles"; see image at left). The video is comprised of a series of images taken with a confocal microscope of one portion of an aberrant ovariole cyst. The idea behind confocal microscopy is that you can look through the "layers" of an image to try to get a sense for the actual, three-dimensional qualities of the mounted material (which, while squashed down on a slide, still has some depth and cannot all be visualized in the same focal plane). Some really nice software allows you to stack the images and play them back. Here, nuclei of particular cells are stained with a dye that binds between the "rungs" on the DNA ladder, making the nuclei of the cells within the cyst appear red under a fluorescent filter. By running through the stack in a video, you can easily visualize every cell within the cyst (which is how I realized that there was something seriously wrong with this fly's ovaries).

TessaTrek at Lauren and Brian's
Clay and I installed TessaTrek over the summer at Lauren and Brian's home. It was about 200 bricks. It leads to a new deck and a pad for garbage and recycling bins.

_round 2
Project time line done. Each project title will be flagged out to the side for my portfolio contents page. The "cut" line is to skip some projects that sucked and avoid eating up vertical space. And I just wanted to squish the month names together. Like the satisfaction of eating chocolate. or something.

The best part is, everyone here is creative so money is no issue. No one will be offended if their present is home-made, thrift, vintage, or just plain everyday (food hint hint, good cheese etc...). The common, the utilitarian is the new lux. Continue
